On 07/26/25 around 0016 hrs. I (Cpl. White) responded to the incident location in regards to an emergency 911 call coming in through dispatch stating that someone was actively attempting to break into her/complainant/offender (Ashley Callahan) residence. While giving the call out dispatch advised that as the female was stating that someone was attempting to break into her home they heard a male’s voice say in the background, who? The female caller then states, you! Dispatch advised that as she was speaking with the female the call disconnected and was not able to get the caller back on the line after attempts at call backs. I asked dispatch due to proximity if they could see if Ellijay P.D. would have someone be en route with me to assist due to the nature of the call. Dispatch advised that Sgt. McClure and Ofc. Young were responding. I responded emergency lights and siren. When we arrived at the incident location I activated my audio/video and body camera.
As we were approaching the residence I could observe what appeared to be a white male and white female inside of the residence talking. I then observed the female come outside onto the front porch. I asked first to see her hands to make sure she was unarmed and then asked who the other person was inside of the residence. Ms. Callahan advised at first there was nobody else inside of the residence. I then asked Ms. Callahan then where was the other person. She asked me who? I stated, the one that she reported breaking into her home. She stated that he was outside running around in the woods somewhere. I continued to explain that I observed someone else in the house and the other officer observed someone else in the house.
I asked Ms. Callahan if she would mind if we came inside to make sure nobody else was inside of the residence to ensure that she was safe and she stated, “no”. I explained to her that it was important to make sure nobody else was in her home and she finally admitted that there wasn’t a break in. Ms. Callahan advised that her and her boyfriend were arguing and she wanted him to take her serious. I asked her how the argument happened and if it was physical. Ms. Callahan stated that there was nothing physical, they were only aruging. Ms. Callahan added that they were agruing inside and her boyfriend, [WITNESS #1] then went outside and was making a bunch of noise so she locked him out of the house. I asked her how long her and her boyfriend had been living at this residence and she said since around May of this year. I then asked Ms. Callahan to speak to [WITNESS #1] and see if he would like to speak to us and she said, he probably wouldn’t, but I’ll check. Ms. Callahan came back outside and stated that he did not want to speak to me.
I then explained to Ashley how serious it was for her to make a false report of a crime and asked her why she didn’t just tell us that she needed us out there because her and her boyfriend were arguing. She stated that she didn’t know, she just wanted him to take her serious so that’s why she said what she said. I explained to her what dispatch told us as the call came out and Ms. Callahan replied, yes that’s what I said. I continued to advise her how dangerous her actions were not only for the officers responding but the public on the roadway as well. Ms. Callahan admitted to lying about there being a break in and apologized. I added that when we arrived she continued to lie to us telling us at first the intruder was in the woods and then changing her story once more advising that there was nobody that broke in.
I explained to Ms. Callahan what she did was a crime and that she was being placed under arrest. I placed handcuffs on Ms. Callahan behind her back, double locking them and checking for proper fit. Ms. Callahan was escorted to my patrol car and secured inside of the vehicle with the seat belt. We then went back up to the front door and attempted to make contact with [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] did not come to the door to speak to us. We observed through the front door window that in plain view there was laying up against the door what appeared to be a possible door frame. This door frame appeared to had damage to it or at least appeared to had been removed from the wall with nails exposed on the underside. I took pictures of the door frame. Ms. Callahan was transported to the Gilmer County Detention Center without incident. Ms. Callahan was turned over to the jail staff. I checked the back of my patrol vehicle for contraband and had negative findings. Ms. Callahan will have the following warrants taken out for her:
