[NARRATIVE #1 on August 02, 2025]
On Saturday, August 2nd, 21:37 hours, I, Deputy First Class J. Ledford #544 of the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to [600 BLOCK] Summit Lane, in reference to a physical domestic incident. Gilmer County Dispatch advised that the incident was still active, and parties were not seperated, so I responded code 3 (Emergency Lights and Sirens active), along with Lieutenant Hefner #510, and DFC C. Jump #545.
Upon my arrival, I observed Lt. Hefner placing a female (Identified as:
Brandi Acevedo
) in handcuffs, and DFC Jump placing a male (Identified as: Carlos Acevedo) in handcuffs. DFC Jump walked the male outside, onto the porch, and I stood with him and Mr. Acevedo. I asked Mr. Acevedo what happened, and he advised that nothing happened, it was just a stupid argumet. Mr. Acevedo did appear elevated at the time, as his responses to me were very rapid, his eyes were open wide, and his breathing rapid and heavy. After a few moments of speaking with Mr. Acevedo, Lt. Hefner walked out onto the porch, and showed me a picture of a red mark on Mrs. Acevedo’s neck, the red mark was approximately 2-3 inches in length, and 3 inches wide, which appeared to be grab mark.
I continued speaking with Mr. Acevedo for a moment, and started trying to explain the reason that he was in handcuffs, and he began to get irate with me, tensing up and approaching me, raising his voice, and stating “I’m calm, do you want me to turn up?”. DFC Jump was able to calm him back down.
I then stepped into the residence, where I observed a chair pushed forward, and a few household items on the floor. As I was entering the house, I heard Mrs. Acevedo stating that Mr. Acevedo did not get physical with her, I asked how the chair got pushed forward, and she stated that it was due to her dropping her phone and it sliding up under the chair.
Mrs. Acevedo refused to give any statement, or provide any information to me on what caused the redness on her neck. Lt. Hefner advised me that he would be placing Mrs. Acevedo under arrest for obstruction, as she tried to hinder the investigation upon his arrival (he was first on scene). We allowed Mrs. Acevedo to call who she referred to as the juveniles who were on scene ([JUVENILE #1], [JUVENILE #2], [JUVENILE #3], and [JUVENILE #4])’s aunt.
While standing with Mrs. Acevedo, [JUVENILE #1] walked into the living room, and she explained that they were going to go with their aunt for the night, and also instructed him not to tell his grandmother or grandfather anything about the incident. Once Lt. Hefner was back and standing with Mrs. Acevedo, I exited the house, and informed Mr. Acevedo that he was under arrest for Misdemeanor Battery, and DFC Jump then left the scene with him, and transported him to the Gilmer County Adult Detention Center.
I then walked back inside to Lt. Hefner and Mrs. Acevedo, and Lt. Hefner walked outside and began attempting to get in touch with DFCS, in reference to the incident. After a few moments, I transported Mrs. Acevedo to the Gilmer County Adult Detention Center, where I turned her over to Detention Staff without incident. While en-route to the detention center, Mrs. Acevedo made a spontaneous utterance, in which she stated that the only reason Mr. Acevedo “did it” was due to him drinking Hennesssee (brand of liqour), and he’s a “different person” when he drinks it.
Although Mrs. Acevedo was uncooperative, I have charged Mr. Acevedo with the following:
O.C.G. A – 16-5-23.1 – Battery (Family Violence) – Due to the redness on Mrs. Acevedo’s neck, as well as the utterance, and statements given from the juveniles (See Lt. Hefner’s supplemental report).
O.C.G. A – 16-5-70 – Cruelty to Children in the 3rd Degree (4 counts), due to all juveniles advising Lt. Hefner that they heard or witnessed the incident. For more on Mrs. Acevedo’s charges, please see Lt. Hefner’s supplemental report.

[NARRATIVE #2 on August 02, 2025]
On August 2, [2025] at approximately 2135 hours I, Lt.Hefner heard dispatch advise of a physical domestic at [600 BLOCK] Summit Lane Ellijay, Ga. Dispatch advised that a juvenile located at the residence was the caller and that they advised a male and female were in a physical altercation that was ongoing. I responded code 3 (lights and sirens activated) in my patrol unit #222. I arrived on scene at approximately 2143 hours.
Prior to my arrival, dispatch advised that the caller stated if the male (Carlos left the scene he may be in a black Jeep). I arrived at the residence first, and observed a vehicle in the driveway with its lights on and running, sitting beside it was the back Jeep. I approached the vehicles and cleared them for possible suspects and then approached the front door. I knocked on the door as Deputy Jump arrived on scene. A female (Brandi Avevedo) came to the door and stepped outside, quickly closing the door behind her.
I asked Brandi where Carlos was located and she stated that he had left already. I then asked Brandi how he had left since both vehicles were in the driveway. Brandi stated that Carlos was picked up by some friends. I observed red markings and scratches on Brandis face and neck. I advised Brandi that I needed to clear the house to make sure Carlos was not inside. Brandi stated “you’re not coming inside my house without a warrant and moved in front of the door knob. I advised Brandi that I had exigent circumstances and that I was in fact coming inside the house. Brandi stated several more times that I was not going into her residence and had to be physically moved for me to enter.
As I walked inside the residence, still having to move Brandi out of my way, I observed a male come out of the hallway. I advised Deputy Jump to detain the male and I placed handcuffs on Brandi for obstruction. In the living room area there was several items in the floor and a couch had apparently pushed around. I asked Brandi where her kids were and she led me to a bedroom down the hall. Inside the bedroom were the two male juveniles.
I spoke with the boys about what happened and they both stated they had heard loud banging in the living room and their mother saying “my arm” and “dont do this in front of the kids”. After speaking with the boys it was learned that two female juveniles also resided in the house. I asked Brandi where the females were and she stated they were asleep. Brandi refused to cooperate with any information about the domestic situation. The boys were insistant that I not tell their mother that they called because of fear of punishment.
Brandi spoke with a friend on the phone “[REDACTED]” who was sending “[WITNESS #1]” to pick up the kids. I then attempted several times to call the DFCS hotline and was placed on a call list. I waited with the children after Brandi and Carlos were taken to the detention center. As soon as Brandi left, I went inside and the two juvenile females were in the living room. Both stated that they had been awake and in their room. I asked the juveniles if they also heard the fight and they said yes, the youngest stated that she had been in the room with Brandi and Carlos at one point during the altercation. Three of the four children stated that Carlos gets this way “when he drinks henessy”.
At approximately 1130, [WITNESS #1] arrived and took the children with her to [REDACTED]’s residence in Blairsville. A DFCS referral was made just as [WITNESS #1] arrived and they were given all the important information.
Due to the fact that Brandi gave false information about Carlos’ whereabouts, and proceeded to block the door, this in my opinion went beyond a scared victim and into obstructing an investigation. Brandi was issued warrants for Obstruction misd. This incident was recorded on my BWC along with the hour or so of the children speaking with me about the incident. VINE pamplets and victim forms were issued to Brandi by deputy ledford who transported her to jail.
